Wedding Chapel
County Chapel

The County Clerk Division’s staff and volunteers perform civil ceremonies by appointment at the County Chapel located at:

555 County Center, 1st Floor
Redwood City, CA 94063

The Chapel can be reserved for ceremonies Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and one of our Deputy Marriage Commissioner will perform the ceremony. To request the civil ceremony in Spanish language, please call our office at 650.363.4500 to ensure the availability of a Spanish speaking officiant.

Witness Required for Ceremony: Minimally, one witness for the betrothed couple must be present for a public civil ceremony. No witness is required for a confidential ceremony.

Reserving the County Chapel includes our Deputy Marriage Commissioner for the ceremony. The use of an outside officiant is permissible upon receipt of an email at countyclerk@smcacre.gov to arrange use of their own officiant.

Couples reserving the County Chapel to hold their civil ceremony may choose to broadcast the ceremony to friends and family over the internet. There is a high-definition camera installed in the chapel which will stream your wedding anywhere in the world to your virtual guests. Your guests can view your civil ceremony on a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop/desktop personal computer. Couples who choose to broadcast their wedding online will receive a copy of their wedding ceremony on a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device to take home. The USB is provided to the couple immediately after the ceremony. Couples may opt not to broadcast their ceremony over the internet and still receive a recording of their ceremony on a USB for the same cost of $50. The cost of $65 to reserve the County Chapel includes: a reserved time of 30-minutes from the reservation time, a small private room, and a Deputy Marriage Commissioner to perform the civil ceremony. The small room consists of 8 seats and with the end of the Covid-19 State of Emergency earlier this year, the occupancy limit for our Wedding Chapel has increased to 25 occupants (Deputy Marriage Commissioner, Bride, Groom and 22 additional guests that includes the witness(es).

Pets, alcohol, food, drinks, and littering are not permitted inside. Service dogs who are highly trained to aid their owners with disabilities are welcome.

Please remember – it is required to obtain a marriage license prior to your scheduled wedding day.
